Afghan, Afghanistan and Organization of the State in India and Afghanistan

By Professor Hasan Kakar (Author)

Translated By: Samiullah Zyar

Language: Dari

Number of Pages: 127

Formats available:

This work describes the evolution of the words Afghan and Afghanistan. It also describes how the Pashtuns organized the state in Delhi in the fifteenth century as other Muslims had done following the conquest of India by Sultan Mahnud in the eleventh century. The state that Shair Shah Suree organized in Delhi served as a model for King Babur who conquered India in 1526. The Roashani Movement founded by Peer Roashan against the Mughal domination of the Pashtun lands in the late sixteenth century became an epic story. It was in the early seventeenth century which the Hotakee Pashtuns led by Meer Vais liberated Kandahar from the Persian Safavid occupation while his son occupied Persia and his nephew organized a short lived state there. Following these developments Ahmad Shah Durrane established an independent state based in Kandahar, and an empire stretching from the Persia Khurasan to Delhi including Kashmir and Sind.
