Zorozster’s Zand, and Avesta, the Histories of Herodotus and materials about Alexander’s invasions (356-323 B.C.) made it possible to unfold the historical events that occurred in the different periods of ancient Afghanistan and the region. Dr. Kakar’s Pashtun, Afghan and Afghanistan is a survey of ancient Afghan history, which he references these above materials to elaborate on its contents through a historical perspective, and attempt to fill in the missing historical analysis that many have pondered about. Dr. Kakar tries to identify where the Pashtun’s roots assimilated from and discusses concept and the use of the word “Afghan,” and provides insight on the word’s transition to the political identify of a nation during the different historical times. Dr. Kakar provides an analysis of ancient Ariana in Afghanistan’s different stages of development.
