Commemoration Ceremony for the Eighth Anniversary of Professor Mohammad Hassan Kakar’s Passing

On January 5, the eighth anniversary of Dr. Mohammad Hassan Kakar’s passing was commemorated with a gathering at his tomb in Surkhakan, Laghman Province. The ceremony was attended by academic figures, university professors, scholars, representatives of the Laghman Directorate of Information and Culture, elders, and youth from the provinces of Kabul, Nangarhar, and Laghman.

The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a speech from Dr. Mohammad Zarin Anzoor, one of the founders of the Kakar History Foundation. On behalf of the Kakar History Foundation and Dr. Kakar’s family, particularly his wife, Maryam Kakar, Dr. Anzoor expressed gratitude to the attendees. He gave a comprehensive discussion on Professor Kakar’s life and thoughts, sharing personal memories. He urged the educated youth to study Professor Kakar’s works for a deeper understanding of his contributions. As a member of the Kakar History Foundation’s academic board, Dr. Anzoor highlighted the foundation’s core objectives, activities, and recent publications.

Anzoor elaborated on the foundation’s establishment with Dr. Kakar’s involvement, emphasizing its ongoing role as a significant resource for Afghan historical research. The foundation has published numerous books in print and online and has also organized seminars, conferences, and gatherings related to Afghanistan’s history.

Faizullah Patnan, a writer, journalist, and university professor, also spoke about Dr. Kakar’s academic life, describing his works as precise references for further research. Attiqullah Qureshi, representing the Laghman Directorate of Information and Culture, commended Dr. Kakar’s character, knowledge, and academic achievements, stating that his name and ideas would live on forever.

Elder Mirza Mohammad Faqiri and other participants also shared their thoughts on Dr. Kakar. The gathering concluded with prayers for Dr. Kakar’s soul and the laying of wreaths on his grave.
